Careers at Virtual TVI
Join Our Team of Virtual TVIs and Vision Professionals
At Virtual TVI, we are united by a mission: to give every student with visual impairment access to expert instruction and support, no matter where they live. We proudly offer flexible, remote work opportunities as 1099 independent contractors, which means you control your caseload, your schedule, and your location.
Whether you are an experienced vision professional or just starting out, you will be part of a committed and supportive team that values flexibility, collaboration, and high-quality services. We are especially passionate about meeting the need for virtual vision services across the country, as the gap between the number of qualified TVIs and O&Ms and the growing population of students with visual impairments widens. We are looking for people like you to help us close that gap.
Who We Are Hiring
We work with:
- Certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) (fully remote or hybrid)
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) (hybrid only)
- Professionals who are certified in both VI and O&M (remote or hybrid)
- Certified Braille Transcribers (remote only)
- Paraprofessionals with vision experience (hybrid or in-person only)
- Interveners trained in deaf blindness (hybrid or in-person only)
Why You Will Love Working With Us
Remote Flexibility
Set your own hours during the school day. Choose the students you serve, adjust your caseload when needed, and work from anywhere. Most of our services are fully remote, but we also offer optional in-person travel opportunities to complete assessments or provide intensive services for a day to a week at a time.
You Are in Control
You decide how many hours you want, and we support you as your needs change. If you want to take on more students or evaluations, we can add them. If you need to step back temporarily or reduce your caseload long term, we can adjust at any time. Whether you are balancing family, health, or other work, we help make your schedule work for you.
Optional Paid Travel
We welcome professionals who are open to occasional travel for evaluations or in-person instruction. You decide when you travel, where you go, and how long you stay. All travel expenses are covered. We are especially looking for professionals who are dual-certified as both TVI and COMS and can provide high-impact support in person.
Strong Support Network
You are never alone. Our team is led by Elizabeth Webb, a certified TVI who understands your role and is available when challenges come up. We provide mentorship, team coverage during busy times, and regular collaboration. If a student is not a good match for your schedule, experience, or teaching style, we can reassign them so you always feel confident in your work.
Competitive Compensation
Certified staff are paid between fifty and seventy-five dollars per hour, depending on experience. You are paid your full hourly rate for all time worked, including:
- Live instruction
- Emails and communication (even a parent phone call on a weekend)
- IEP meeting attendance
- Documentation and progress tracking
- Lesson planning and preparation
- Material development
- No-shows and last-minute cancellations that cannot be repurposed
- Any other time you spend on behalf of a student or district (within reason)
The only unpaid time is onboarding, which includes live Zoom trainings on our systems, policies, evaluations, and remote teaching practices. You will also observe at least one live session taught by our founder, Elizabeth.
If you need access to essential tools for your work, such as Microsoft Office or Zoom, we can provide software licenses at no cost to you so you can focus on teaching without the burden of extra expenses.
More Reasons You Will Love Joining Virtual TVI
Professional Growth
We offer optional ongoing staff development trainings on specialized topics so you can continue building your skills. You will have access to shared resources, opportunities to learn from team members, and support in improving your remote instruction.
If you have expertise in a specific area you are passionate about, we may offer to compensate you for presenting a training to the entire team. Your session will be recorded and made available as a future resource for all staff.
Mentorship and Intern Opportunities
We provide mentorship for new and transitioning professionals. If you are still working toward your certification, you can serve students as an intern under the supervision of one of our certified TVIs until you are fully credentialed.
Meaningful Impact
By working with Virtual TVI, you help close service gaps across the country. Your skills make a real difference for students in districts facing short-term or long-term vision specialist shortages and ensure they receive the high-quality support they deserve.
Support for Multi-State Certification
We are continually expanding to new states and will help you obtain additional state certifications if needed. We assist with the application process and reimburse your certification fees so you can serve students in more locations with confidence and ease.
